A map of the UCSC campus indicating the PSB building location

The CSC is on the 4th floor, on the West side of the Physical Sciences Building, immediately adjacent to the loading dock and outside/emergency stairwell.

If you are walking from the Core West parking structure, PSB the closest building, an orange building visible right in front of you when standing at the pedestrian entrance on the 2nd floor.

Mail and package shipments are received at a separate location – click here for contact info.

PERMITS: Parking permits are required and can be purchased at the kiosk when entering the south side of campus through the main entrance. The kiosk is a hut similar to what you might find at a state park. A day pass is $10. Note that the kiosk staff person usually takes lunch starting around 11am, so you may want to plan on getting your pass before then, or else later in the afternoon. All locations where you  can buy permits are on the map here.

LOCATIONS: Parking is available in the Core West Parking Structure, located at the intersection of McLaughlin and Heller Drives. This is very close to PSB. There are also a few locations (e.g. by the engineering building) with limited number of designated spots that can be used by the public on an hourly basis using the ParkMobile app. All parking is shown on this parking map.

For more information on parking, see TAPS.

Located amidst the majestic redwoods, at the highest point on the northwest side of the UC Santa Cruz main campus, you can find Science Hill. PSB is across the street (McLaughlin Dr) from Engineering, across the quadrangle from the Biomedical Sciences Building, and across a path from Sinsheimer science building.

This 132,000 square foot, modern building with 4-story atrium was opened in 2006, thanks in part to building funds from QB3.

PSB houses:

  • Perk coffee bar
  • 50 research labs
  • conference rooms
  • classrooms
  • offices

for departments of Chemistry & Biochemistry, Microbiology & Environmental Toxicology, and a small presence of Biomolecular Engineering.

The 2,000 acres UCSC main campus, which was originally a limestone mine, is at the northwest corner of Santa Cruz, at the foothills of the Ben Lomond Mountain ridge. Other UCSC campuses include the Coastal Sciences Campus, Westside research park, and buildings in Scotts Valley and Silicon Valley. UCSC is one of 10 University of California campuses, which are all public land grant research universities. Check out this video taken by a student as he skateboards through campus, starting near PSB.

Santa Cruz is a quaint beach town in northern California, USA. Santa Cruz is on Monterey Bay of the Pacific Ocean. It is located on the State Route 1, a scenic highway that extends from Leggett on the north side to Dana Point in Orange County. The closest major city is San Jose, which has the closest major international airport (SJC). Before Spanish colonization in the 18th century, the land on which Santa Cruz sits was first inhabited, at least 12,000 years ago, by Awaswas Natives, a tribe of 1,000 people whose language is now extinct – it gave us the word "abalone" for a certain shellfish. UCSC is Santa Cruz's largest employer (>8,000 employees). Tourist attractions include the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Natural Bridges State Beach, the surfer memorial, and the Seymour Marine Discovery Center. Surfing, mountain biking, and skateboarding are very popular here.
